I was walking back to my Jeep one morning, latte in hand, when I looked down and noticed the blackberry leaves growing along the path.
The texture of them. The detail. The veining.
And then I saw it, two leaves growing together, side by side, shaped exactly like butterfly wings.
I drove straight home.
This is the companion piece to the Wild Metamorphosis bronze butterfly... the same blackberry leaf mold, pressed in copper metal clay. Warmer in tone. Slightly larger. Each one comes out a little different because copper clay is alive and unpredictable, just like the moments that inspire it.
This particular butterfly has a beautiful slightly off-balanced quality... like it's perpetually caught mid-flight. That's not a flaw. That's the whole point.
Some pieces carry more than metal. This is one of them.
