Speckled white clay, iron freckling up dark through the surface. The face is worked in bands... bare clay across the top, a run of fine horizontal lines through the middle, vertical lines below, each register turned against the one above it like rows in a planted bed seen from the top of the hill. Smoke grey glaze runs through the center in gloss and stops clean. Everything above and below stays raw, matte, unglazed clay. Reddish brown Italian leather. Brass accents. Made slow in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.
At 1.75 inches it wears quiet... small, flat, close to the collarbone, nothing swinging. It goes to the gallery, then the nursery, then the long lunch afterward. Against linen. Against a grey sweater. For the woman who would rather stand in front of one very good object for ten minutes than walk past twenty.
