Sky across the top, blue washing wide and pooling deeper where it gathers. Land below the line, dark and stormy and warm at the edges. And right at the horizon, the sun... not painted, not glazed, but the open center of the piece itself, bare white clay left to let the light through. The wave is carved by hand, tool marks running the full width of the piece like the last line of the water before the sky takes over. Caramel Italian leather. Brass and oxidized brass beads at the ends. Made slow in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.
Wear it long over linen on the drive out to the coast. Short at the throat once you get there. It belongs to the woman who has watched the sun come up over water and had absolutely nothing to say about it... and just as much to the one who catches a sunset from a parking lot on the way home and stops anyway. Same feeling, either end of the day.
