Eight ferns pressed in a circle... the forest floor, made into something you can wear.
Porcelain, with eight leaf impressions radiating from the center like a mandala, each one pressed with a fern stamp so the fronds raise up off the surface. Mocha chocolate underglaze brushed over the whole face and wiped back, settling deep into every vein and every notch... the pattern comes forward the way a fern does against wet ground. Clear glaze over all of it. Dark reddish brown Italian leather. Brass accents. Made slow in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.
Warm enough for wool and denim in October, light enough to keep wearing in July. It sits easily with the browns and creams and greens already hanging in your closet... it came from the same palette. For the woman whose favorite hour of the week is the one she spends under trees.
